On Sunday, Feb. 26, the UNI George Walker Society hosted “A Celebration of the Motown Sound” in the lobby of the Gallagher Bluedorn Performing Arts Center (GBPAC).

The event featured live performances, music videos of classic Motown artists and displays of memorabilia and collectibles.

The free event was brought to campus in conjunction with Black History Month.

Local up and coming music artist Trevell Fisher was one of the performers at the event, as was Celeste Bembry, the George Walker Society president.

Attendees at the event both listened and danced to the Motown-inspired performances.

In addition to serving as a social event, “A Celebration of the Motown Sound” was also educational, providing historical context for Motown and Detroit, the city that birthed the iconic record company.

At the event, Bembry said she hopes to have the George Walker Society host a blues festival next year.
