In the Monday, Oct. 28 edition of the Northern Iowan, in the story titled ‘ISSO panel discusses transitions,’ Isabela Varela is quoted as saying, “It is very important to stay away from cultural assumptions. At the end of the day, all cultures are the same, [and] communication happens in the same way.” What was actually communicated was that it is important to stay away from risky cultural assumption, such as “All cultures are the same” and “Communication happens in the same way everywhere.” The Northern Iowan regrets the error.
