Stressed or anxious for finals? If so, don’t be shy to stop by the activities provided by the Student Wellness Services called, De-stress Days.

“Take advantage of these kind of events,” said Lanie Crouse, graduate post secondary education student affairs major.

The De-stress Days activities are held to help UNI students take their minds off testing and presentations between 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. starting on May 4.

Mini massages, a meditative labyrinth, puzzles, various arts and crafts, puppies, thank-you card writing and Zumba will all be offered throughout May 4-6. These events will be taking place in the Maucker Union ballrooms.

Free five minute massages seem to be the most popular, “the line never ends,” Crouse said, who believes giving and receiving massages are both great ways to de-stress.

Dim lighting, soothing music and mediation make up the labyrinth. Students can slow down by clearing their minds, reflecting or even sleeping within the maze-like environment.

For students to get the most out of the labyrinth, Abigail Herold, senior health promotion major, said walking slower through the labyrinth is more beneficial.

A new activity this year is an opportunity to write thank-you cards, whether they be for a friend, roommate or professor. Showing acts of kindness is believed to decrease stress levels.

The Cedar Valley PET PALS will be bringing some four legged friends to aid in easing the minds of UNI students. These playful puppies will make an appearance May 6.

Zumba will be taught by a wellness instructor from the W.R.C. and will begin at 1 p.m. on the roof of Mauker. Crouse believes this will be a great way for students to be more active rather than passive.

Students can come and go as they please and stay for however long they feel. There is no set time limit.

These activities are hosted by the Student Wellness staff and volunteers at the end of each semester.
