Men’s golf competes at Air Force Invitational

The UNI golf team officially started their season this weekend by traveling to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado to compete in the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational. The Panthers were among 24 teams who competed in this year’s event. The team consists of returning faces as well as some fresh blood for the program. 

On the inaugural day of the tournament, the Panthers were led by Tommy Doyle who posted a score of 73 with three birdies giving him a grand total of +1 on the day and placing him in a tie for 34th. JD Pollard shot a 76 with two birdies on the day. The team scored a total of 308 on the first day, placing them at 22nd. 

Griffin Parker was the leader on the second day of the invitational with a score of 73. This gave him a +1 on the day and a +10 in the tournament. Thomas Storbeck was not far behind with a total of 74, while Doyle followed with a 75. This helped the Panthers gain a total of 300 in the second round and moved them into 21st place.

Results from the third and final day, Sunday, Sept. 11, were not available as of press time. After UNI concludes their competition at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational, next up will be an in-state trip to Des Moines to compete in the Zach Johnson Invitational, hosted by Drake University.
