Prez qualifications

In a letter to Iowa senators Jeff Danielson, Rob Hogg and Brian Schoenjahn, the UNI presidential search committee named the qualifications they are seeking for the university’s next president.

According to the letter, the list of qualifications came as a result of a formal input process that utilized feedback from 450 participants. This process began all the way back in May and concluded earlier this week, on Sept 3.

The list contained nearly two dozen qualifications. One of the more notable ones called for UNI’s next president to have “successful executive experience including leadership and administration in higher education.”

This announcement is coming off the heels of the controversial presidential search process that occurred earlier this year at the University of Iowa. There, Bruce Harreld, a former IBM executive with no experience in academic administration, was hired despite “strenuous objections of the faculty,” according to The Gazette.

With the announcement of these formal qualifications, the UNI presidential search committee is now preparing a position advertisement by this Friday, Sept. 9, for university publications, such as the Chronicle of Higher Education.
