According to a report from the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, the Iowa Board of Regents plans to implement a restructuring process that will cause up to 250 jobs in Iowa’s public universities to disappear over a long period of time. An estimated 30 of these jobs would be IT, business and HR jobs at the University of Northern Iowa.
In the report, former acting UNI President Michael Licari said though some employees have expressed dissent, the restructuring suggestions come at a good time. Many staff are now eligible for retirement.
The plan was suggested to the BOR by consultants to save money. The three presidents of Iowa’s public universities are calling for more analysis before any decisions are reached.
Michelle Beyers, UNI Human Resource Services director, stated that the process used is called natural attrition; no lay-offs are expected.
