Wednesday, a small group of students went out of their way to make others feel
better about themselves. As people walked through the doors of Maucker Union, students
gave them a compliment along with a small flyer. On one side, there was a word search. On
the other was information on how to spread positivity and “compliment bomb” people. Several
notes with positive messages designed to make people smile and feel good about
themselves were also scattered around campus.
Andrea Thoene, senior communications major, said that Pawsitive Panthers was part
of a project for a class, performance and social change, where they had to perform some
type of group change on campus.
“We have different groups doing different things, but we decided that we wanted to
tackle self-image and promote a positive image on campus so people feel better about
themselves,” Thoene said.
“We had to choose something that was relevant to society today. We decided that
one thing that is a huge hindrance on society is people’s self-image and how a lot of people
have poor self-image,” said group member, Spencer Schmidt, a senior communication:
electronic media major.
Schmidt also talked about how many people think it’s necessary to go out of their way
to feel beautiful. He believes it’s unnecessary, because everyone is beautiful in their own way
and hopes Pawsitive Panthers can show people that.
