Panthers win fifth straight match

The Panthers won their fifth straight match as they defeated conference foes Loyola and Bradley over the weekend.

UNI headed into the weekend having won nine of their last 10 sets, and it would be no different Friday as they swept Loyola in three straight sets.

Loyola put the pressure on UNI in the first set as they took an early 8-3 lead. The Panthers rallied back, knotting the set at 14-14 off a few Rambler errors.

Kinsey Caldwell picked up three service aces as the Panthers scored the final six points of the set, winning it 25-18.

The momentum carried into the second set as UNI took an early 11-4 lead and never looked back. Eryca Hingtgen had five of her seven kills in the second set as UNI took a 2-0 lead, 25-15.

Loyola battled back in the final set as they scored seven straight points to take an 18-15 lead.

Down 23-22, the Panthers scored three straight points to end the match and compete the sweep.

The Panthers’ success continued on Saturday as they defeated Bradley in the first set, 25-15.

After winning the second set 27-25, UNI looked to complete another sweep at home as they found themselves up 23-20. Bradley scored six out of the final seven points to force a fourth set.

Kayla Haneline had six of her career-high 17 kills in the fourth and final set as the Panthers defeated Bradley 25-13.

UNI will take a short break from Missouri Valley Conference play as they face in-state rival Iowa State on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Cedar Falls.
