The University of Northern Iowa soccer team went 2-0 this weekend as they defeated South Dakota State 2-1 on Saturday before shutting out Western Illinois, 2-0.

The Panthers struck early against South Dakota State as Maggie Riley found Caitlyn Fuller on a corner kick for their first goal of the game. Fuller’s goal marked her second of the season.

The Jackrabbits fought back and scored from within the box 17 minutes in. Alyssa Brazil took the touch in the center of the box before putting it in the side of the net.

Sarah Brandt’s first goal of the season would be the deciding goal with few minutes remaining in the first half.

UNI looked to keep their momentum heading into the contest against Western Illinois Sunday afternoon. No goals were recorded in the first half as both teams combined for nine total shots.

The second half would see a vast jump in shots attempted as UNI took six and WIU attempted 14 shots.

The first goal of the match came early in the second half as Riley once again assisted on a goal with Charlotte Jones. Riley found Jones in the open before she sent it to Sarah McHugh. McHugh headed it past the keeper to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.

Brady Clark scored the final goal at the 62 minute mark, her third of the season.

UNI will begin Missouri Valley Conference play on Saturday as they take on Drake University at 7 p.m. in Waterloo.
