Will Krueger didn’t expect to find his future at UNI and, quite frankly, didn’t want to in the beginning. What started as uncertainty quickly became a journey defined by leadership and meaningful impact across the entire campus.
“UNI felt like the right fit after my first visit, which originally, I didn’t want to attend,” he said.
Raised in Des Moines, Iowa, Krueger double-majored in psychology and family services with minors in mental health and digital media. When he first arrived on campus, he was filled with mixed emotions, but with involvement, he found his place.
“I came in feeling excited but a little uncertain about where I’d find my place,” he said. “Over time, I became so thankful for how naturally I found community through the Rod Library, Dance Marathon, the Glee Club and orientation.
That sense of community became the center of his college experience. Krueger immediately immersed himself in campus life through leadership roles and building connections that would shape his personal and professional growth. Among his proudest accomplishments was his work with UNI Dance Marathon.
“Leading UNI Dance Marathon and watching it grow will always be one of the most exciting things I’ve gotten to do during my college career,” he said. “I’ll truly miss the people most, the students, staff and families who reminded me every day why this work matters.”
His involvement extended beyond a single organization as Krueger dedicated his time to a wide range of campus organizations, including Dance Marathon, Connecting Through Cancer, the Summer Orientation program, the Varisty Glee Club and the Rod Library, among others.
Krueger urges incoming students to “get involved early and say yes to opportunities, even when they feel intimidating.”
Each one of his roles has taught him something and shaped him into the person he is today.
After graduation, Krueger will continue his education at the University of Kansas, pursuing a master’s degree in higher education — alongside his best friend Alex Oltterpohl, whom he met through freshman orientation.
